Artist Inspired

The assignment for this project was to research a clay artist, then make art that was similar to theirs. I made a mug with a personal memory painted on it.

I researched an artist names Mary Wilhelm. She is an artist that makes different sculptures based off of childhood memories, in loving memory of her mother passing away. I made art similar to this by making a mug that had a personal memory on it. I started by using a slab and a tennis ball container and I started to make a mug using the slab technique. One this was done, I made a slab handle. After, I decided I was going to paint a wagon on this mug, which was a wagon I remember from my childhood. I noticed that some of Mary's art was popping out of the mug, that was connected to the painted picture. Because of this, I placed where the wagon handle was going to be and made a piece of clay similar to the wagon handle, andscratch and scored it on. I smoothed out the edges of this pot and waited for it to be fired.

If i were to do this project again, I would've picked a piece of art that was more unique and detailed than a mug.
