Calm Waters
9"x 12"
Acrylic, marker, and graphite on canvas paper
For this project, I chose to paint an image of a Tufted duck. I chose this duck because all animals, including Tufted ducks, go through a severe loss of habitat due to human destruction and other things revolving around pollution and drainage. This piece brought to my mind the still waters of ponds and lakes and how they can get ruined in seconds.
I started off by creating a solid color of my water. I left some white space to go in with different colors to make the water have a variety of colors like green, blue, white, and some brown. Next, I used different colors of the duck and small brushes to make the detail stronger. I finished with adding plants in the background to complete this piece.
For my materials, I used acrylic paint to give the idea of solid color and I layered colors for the effect of bigger detail. If I were to repeat this project, I would change my material to watercolor or colored pencil. I would've changed this because acrylic paint is difficult to work within the way that you cant change the paint once you put it down. Watercolor for the water would've made this more realistic and would've shown the "flow" of the water more clearly.
