I was inspired by the German Expressionist, Kathe Kollwitz who is inspired by the civil war, poverty, and depression. Her work involves characters that are men and women that appear to be in a depressed state of mind. To include her work into mine, I added a pair of crying eyes that looks like the person is going through something tragic. She made this work to show the horrors of living through war and to raise awareness towards others who haven't felt depressed and been in poverty.

The second artist I was inspired by was named Henri Mattise who made art that had lots of patterns and color. I wanted to combine these two artists to show the levels of emotion whether it's happy, or sad. I included his art by making three bowls because some of his art was drawn onto dishes. On these bowls were designs of nature and abstract patterns because Henri liked to include nature into his own work too.

If I were to do this project again, I would choose a different paper material. The paper material I used seemed to be a bit too smooth for the marker and charcoal to stick on to. This caused the marker to smudge and not dry fast enough.

Overall, my goal was to give the impression of poverty ad war along with a mix of colorful patterns to give diversity through the two emotions.
