Zentangle Value Strip
9"x 12"
Graphite, sharpie
This prompt was to make a zentangle that shades from light to dark. I traced a flower using a light board and pencil. I made sure to leave a lot of negative space in the first petal, so I could create a lot of dark space in the darkest petal. I continued to add patterns and lies throughout each petal, making more lines as I went. I used graphite to sketch each pattern, then went over it with extra thin sharpie pen to darken the lines, making it look more complete.
Negative Space Hands
9"x 12"
Graphite
This prompt was to make a negative space hand using only shadows. I started by making a closed shape with my hand, then drawing it using dark space. I made sure to not put any lines on the inside of the hand, because that would ruin the prompt rules. I used a B pencil to make sure the lines were dark enough. The most difficult part of this artwork was making the lines from my hand look similar to the drawing.
Negative Space Leaves
11"x 14"
Brush markers, graphite, sharpie
This prompt was to make negative space leaves. To start, I went outside and gathered four leaves to make the outline of. I set the leaves on a piece of paper for me to copy. After I copied the leaves from one piece of paper to another, I drew small mushrooms to fill the negative space. After I used brush markers to color the mushrooms, background, and flowers, I was finished. The hardest part about this was making sure the ink from the markers didn't leak into the space that wasn't supposed to be colored. This was hard because as I went close to the lines, the ink would spread about two centimeters passed where the marker was. This project was very relaxing and fun. My favorite part of this was drawing the mushrooms and coloring in the spaces with the brush markers. My least favorite part of this project was copying the leaves from one paper to another. This was my least favorite part because I had to make sure every part was the same as the real leaves. There wasn’t an inspiration for this art, I just went with what my brain wanted to draw.
