Carved Cylinder

Carved Cylinder

For this project, the assignment was to make a coil cylinder and carve it however we wanted. This was supposed to be a free-sytle carve so there was no assignment on how it was supposed to look.

I made about a 4 inch tall coil pot. I started by using the coil machine to press clay into coils. This allowed me to have perfect coils to use when mkaing the pot. I stacked each coil in a circle on top of eachother, in between making usre to scratch them and add slip to make sure they were secure. After using about 7 coils, I went back in and smoothed out the sides of the pot using a smoothing tool. After this was smooth and leatherhard, I used a carving tool ot carve simple curved lines to add small detail to the pot, this was the carving part. Making sure it was clean, I waited for this to be fired.

If I were to do this project differently, I would've smoothed out the sides and inside very time i added a coil to make sure it was smooth, this would've made it easier to smooth out in the end.
