Final Sculpture
Paper, wire, magazine, tape
My goal for this project was to make an assemblage project using paper, wire, and plastic. This idea changed throughout the process and I ended up making a turtle sculpture out of wire, paper, magazine, and tape.
I started by using a wire outline to create a base of the turtle shape. After I did this, I made multiple paper balls and filled the middle of the sculpture with paper, making sure it was stiff. I connected them together by using tape to make sure it was very secure. Next, I wrapped the turtle fins with paper and made them more 3 dimensional by using paper balls to fill it in. After this was all done, I used a roll of masking tape to completely cover the sculpture with a layer of tape to make the paper less visible. At this point, I was going to add plastic onto the top but soon realized I didn't know where I would get the plastic from. I worked around this problem by using paper mache to cover the tape and the whole sculpture. After this was complete, I used duct tape to cover the turtle head and was finished with this project.
If I were to do this again, I would've picked a simpler design and I would have planned it much better than when I did here. I would've used more stable materials to make the sculpture easier to work with, but overall this wasn't a favorite project of mine.
