Pointing to the stars.

9"x 11"

Graphite, watercolor, ink

This ink drop sparked imagination to create a hand pointing out a window to look at stars. This idea made me think of how important it is to look outside and enjoy the beauty of darkness. The stars light up the sky in a unique way and it will never hurt to take a look at what is in the dark sky. To make this artwork, I started off by receiving a piece of paper with a random ink drop on it. I used blue painters tape to keep the painting neat. Next, I started tracing the stars and window with a B pencil. I did this to make sure I didn't mess up. Next, I used yellow watercolor paint to make the stars and I used black watercolor to make the night sky. Using a thick black sharpie, I painted to inside of the window to make it appear darker than the black watercolor. To finish off, I peeled the tape off of the border of the paper and was finished. In the beginning of looking at thee ink drop, I wasn’t sure what to make. It took a couple thoughts and I had to rotate the paper to get an idea of what it might be. After realizing that it looks like a hand, I was able to research angles of the hand that I could use to make this look more realistic. While I was making this artwork, I had to erase and revise what I could do to make this into detailed art. After revising, I decided to add texture to the sky by using watercolor to make lines in the sky of where it was darker. After using different paints and supplies, I finally was happy with my result.
