Geometric Shadows

Artist Statement:

For this shot, I was originally thinking of doing something in the darkroom but I ended up scrapping that idea. Instead, I chose to grab some wires and cables on my desk and use those. I played around with the different angles for the shot but I ended up with a top-down shot. A lot of this shot was fairly improvised as it was nothing like I planned on my sketches. However, I did do a bit of pre-planning. I did know for a fact where I wanted to shoot. This was in my room. I wanted this because I knew that the carpet would let the background have a nice texture. Also, more importantly, my room has blackout curtains on windows that face north. This is important because it lets me get my room nearly pitch black even on bright days. This lets me control the light well enabling good shadows.

Overall I think that shot is pretty good. I like that you can see both the shadows and the object casting the shadows. I also like that the object that the shadows are being cast (the floor), has a nice texture to it to make the picture more interesting.
