Artist statement

The project assigned to me was to take portrait style pictures of a subject. According to the rules set for the project we could only have one subject. I chose my younger sister Tessa. I used my Iphone seven to take the pictures and the photos app on my macbook air to edit them into a place that I liked. My pictures come from all different angles because that was part of the project. Taking portrait style photos from different places. For this project I was really selective with the photos I took. I didn't end up changing anything other than the lighting and coloring of some of the photos. I changed two to black and white because I thought they'd look better that way. I find I’m a big fan of darker, more shadowed photos. I think the images hold the weight of the darkness. I've started to light them a little lighter now just because a pitch black photo doesn't really hold my attention. The Pattern of the leaves behind my sister just looks really good in my opinion. I struggled a lot trying to find photos that matched the criteria and that I liked. I chose the leaves just because I like the vibe it gives the picture. A Lot of the time I disliked what it looked like and I started over again. I really want to learn how to find better things to take pictures of. Next time I think I'm going to talk to my mom who is a professional photographer. So of all the things I want to work on, finding better subjects is something I'm going to really focus on.
