Beautiful Oops

This is a drawing of a piece of art that has gotten paint spilled on it. For this project I based my art on the title. The artist was using a paint brush and got too much paint on it so some of the paint dripped off the brush and ruined the painting. Then to put emphasis on the “oops” in the title I wrote beautiful oops in my own “graffiti” style accept I spelled beautiful wrong (intentionally as in additional “oops”). This project pretty much sums me up as an artist. Whenever I make a mistake on a drawing I tend to throw it away and start all over when I could have turned it into something else. I made this drawing with, rulers, gel pens, colored pencils, and pencils. First I used a ruler to border the drawing and then also used it to draw the first lines of the main paint brush. I then drew a flat line horizontally across the paper to show that the art was sitting on a table. Next I added in the paper, making sure to angle it so that it looked as though it was actually sitting on the table. After this, I finished it by adding a variety of patterns into the background and then and coloring it with gel pens and colored pencils. To come up with this idea I first turned the paper around, and imagined the ink splotch as a couple of different things. I finally decided that it looked most like a paintbrush. After that it was a matter of deciding which way to portray it. At first I had a lot of white space in the background and I couldn't figure out what to fill it with. Since one of my favorite art styles is graffiti, I decided to use my own style of graffiti to put the project’s title into the background and use up some of the empty space. I think my next step to expand on this idea might be attempting to figure out other things I can make out of mistakes. Perhaps the next time I think I’ve ruined a drawing, instead of throwing it out I’ll try and turn it into something cool.
