artist Statement

The project assigned to me was to take portrait-style pictures of a subject, then delete everything except the subject and insert a cool image into the darkened subject. For my subject, I used my friend Caroline. I used my iPhone seven to take the pictures and the photos app along with photoshop to edit the images. The other images I took were two I had taken of the Ocean that I had taken over the summer. For this project, I wasn't too picky when it came to the images I chose. I just picked the ones I thought looked good. I didn't change the landscape images but I did darken the portrait images. I had to make them darker because I didn't want too many details from the portrait image to shine through the cooler looking background images. My favorite thing about these images is how the background looks. I love the two ocean pictures. I did not struggle when trying to find photos that matched the criteria and that I liked. I chose the ocean images because they are two of my favorite photos I've ever taken. I never changed out any of the photos I took so there wasn't much process behind the image choice. The main thing I want to learn is how to edit things better. I think that I could come up with much stronger images if I could edit them better. For the next project, I will be enlisting my mom to help with my editing issues.
