Artist Statment:

The project assigned to me was to go outside the school building and take pictures of things I saw that matched examples of photographic rules. Next I had to choose three I liked and edit them in three different ways, recording all changes made. The subjects in the photos I chose were, a football in a soccer net, a brick wall, and a sewer grate. I used my Iphone seven to take the pictures and the photos app on my macbook air to edit them into a place that I liked. Most of the pictures were front and center except the brick wall which takes up the entire photo. Both the football and the sewage grate were arranged so that I could take a photo of them from above. I really played around with the photos I chose because I only took photos that I really liked and sometimes it was hard to choose which ones I thought looked the best. The only thing I really ended up changing was from an american flag photo to a picture of the grate because I thought it fit the way I like to edit photos better. I really like the photos that focus on the subject because the background or outside of the photo was darker. It almost has a sort of gloomy earthy vibe to it that I really love. I think the images hold the weight of the darkness. It's almost as if the subject is an island of light holding back the darkness of reality. I’m most proud of the black and white grate picture. I love how it looks. The Pattern of the grate just looks really good in my opinion. I struggled on finding the perfect way I thought each photo should exist. A Lot of the time I disliked what it looked like and I started over again. I wish I could get better at making the darkness of the photo look better. I want to take a lot more photos of animals, especially marine ones and I would like to edit those photos to look sort of raw and dark. So of all the things I want to work on it is my editing skills.
