Sgraffito Tile

The main idea of all three of these artworks was creating a unique pattern. The first picture (the one on the left) is a sketch of the design I wanted to put on my clay tile. The second picture (the one in the middle) is that design on scratchboard. Then, the last picture (the one on the right) is the final design onto my clay tile. To make this I used: a pen, paper, scratchboard, a clay tile, a scratchboard tool, and a clay tool! To make the sketch I pretty much just drew on my paper with my pen and made a design up as I went. For the scratchboard I basically just used my tool to scratch the black part to make the white part show. Then, for the clay tile I just used my tool to carve through the top layer of the clay until the white under layer showed.
