Graphite, Sharpie, Watercolor, on watercolor paper

When creating this drawing, I knew that I wanted it to be abstract, but also be comprehensible. I also knew that I wanted to use colors, which I don't often do especially with watercolor. I chose the laces of the slipper for the big close up because I knew that it could be created into something abstract, simply because of how simple the original drawing was. This project relates to my life because the original drawing was of my slipper, which I love. I love my slippers.

To create this drawing I used a number of materials and techniques. To start I drew it out in pencil, then went over it in sharpie, then did the watercolor, then over with sharpie again.

When creating this, I used watercolor which I don't have much experience with. I wanted to push my comfort zone a bit by using it, and I am happy with the result. I blended the colors to make an ominous, sunset/sunrise look, with something in the middle. Because it is supposed to be abstract, it could be anything. This project went pretty smoothly overall. I started with the basic drawing in graphite. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do it over in sharpie because the final piece would be overwhelmed with color. So after I did the graphite I went over it in a fine-point sharpie. Next I started the watercolor, I used a set that I had bought, because I wanted to try them out, and frankly, I thought they were better than the school stuff. They were, in fact, good and blended nicely. I didn't want it to be flawless, though, and decided that I wanted to be able to see some of the brushstrokes. Once I was finish with the watercolor, I let it dry overnight and in the morning I went over the lines again with a medium sharpie. I like how it looked and it was quite abstract. If i was to continue this project, I'm not totally sure what I would do next, maybe blend the blue with the red and purple a bit better, but other than that I like it.
