Write Someones Story

Blick alcohol markers on bristol
For this project, I created a mountainous scene with a book and the slogan "Be the words in someone else's story, please consider organ and tissue donation." I created this project for an art competition involving organ donation. This project relates to my life for a few reasons, one, I love the outdoors and this captivates the outdoors pretty well I think. And two, I am going to be choosing whether or not to be an organ donation in the next month or so, and this project is pretty relevant for me right now. To create this work, I first sketched out the scene on a piece of copy paper, then onto a piece of multi-media, then finally onto bristol. To create the piece, I used alcohol markers, which helped me blend and shade. I've never used that kind of marker before I experimented on another piece of bristol to learn the process. I experimented as I went along, but even after the project I know I can learn a lot about using markers like that. To start the project I sketched the scene out and transferred it twice, as I said before. Then I got right into the coloring. I had a wide array of colors to choose from, and I started with the clouds first. The clouds are my least favorite part of the project because they suck, but they are okay considering it was my first attempt at using markers. The clouds took quite a while, and lots of shading, and for all the time and effort I put into them they really did not come out the way I wanted. After the clouds, though, I got right into the mountains, at that point I sort of had the technique down, and while the process took some time, it was smooth. I colored all the mountains and while I was at it, put in the birds, the sky, and the hot air balloon, that I wanted to add to the piece for whatever reason from the beginning. After the mountains, I colored the book and foreground, and added details with rocks and a bit of grass. Then I added the mushrooms. I decided to add some color to the mushrooms, and I like how they came out. Then I was basically done. For a final touch or two, I added some trees so the mid and background didnt look so bland. My favorite part of the work is actually those trees. I really like how they look and what they add to the work. Overall, I like how the project came out, besides the clouds. They look like mountains, and I don't really know how I could fix them but I would if I could. I also could fix that top right mushroom on the book because it looks kind of odd.
Experimenting with shading and colors to learn techniques and style.
Idea generating to figure out the main idea of the piece and different aspects I wanted to include.
