Hoarding glory

12"x9"

Graphite on watercolor

For this piece I decided to go with a type of warrior drawing. in his left hand he wields a sword, and in the right a shield, branded with blood. He has a tunic, which I felt set the time period of what I imagined what drawing this. I was honestly pretty surprised that it turned out nearly exactly how I imagined it. It's hard to relate this to my life, I just enjoy drawing these types of things.

In the drawing I used a Ticonderoga HB pencil on watercolor, again, not sure why I used watercolor, but I did.

To create this I started with some basic shapes and built him around them. I tried a different technique for his facial features, instead of doing traditional lips and eyes, I used two lines for his lips and it worked out pretty good. At first I didn't know how to incorporate the splatter into the art, because of its' awkward form. Once I figured out that I wanted to draw a warrior, i started drawing still not knowing what I wants to do with the splatter. Even after I drew up the shield, I still didn't really know what the splatter was. But after some thought I realized it resembled blood somewhat, well, minus the red.

If I was to continue this project, I would certainly start by fixing the hand on the sword, after that i'd re-center the abdomen, and maybe readjust the muscles.
