Watermelon vault
?
Digital design on Canva
For my final sketch for honors, I decided to do a digital design for my pole vaulting team on Canva. I've used Canva a lot actually. In fact, I made a whole other google portfolio for my original logos and designs: https://sites.google.com/view/cooperdelois/home. I decided to make this because my team wants to make some shirts and I took it into my own hands to make the design. As you can see, the design is a pole vaulter jumping over a watermelon. I made them jumping over the watermelon because watermelon is our team mascot because everyone on the team likes watermelon. Then in big letters in the center, I wrote Freeport Pole Vaulting just so it doesn't get confused with anything else. This project connects to my life because I am on the pole vault team that I created this for. I enjoy pole vaulting and I wanted to do something to add to our small community.
The only material I used to create this final project was Canva. I like Canva because it is very easy to use, free, and has all sorts of different functions and applications.
In creating this piece I used processes that I was pretty familiar with and have used regularly in the past. I am pretty comfortable using Canva so the process went smoothly and quickly, but that didn't take away from the final product. To start this project, I actually hadn't planned on using this as my final sketch, and I was making it solely for the team. But I figured that I had no other ideas for my final sketch and used this. I started by getting onto Canva. This was not easy because I had to change my password. but once I had got on I got directly into designing. I already had an image of what I wanted this to look like in my head so I didn't want or need to use a template to begin. I started from scratch and started by searching up watermelons in the search finder where you can browse through thousands of copyright-free images. It didn't take long for me to find one I liked, so I brought it up and filled it to the page. Then I searched for a pole vaulter, and I was surprised to see how many results came up. Again, I found one after a few seconds and brought it in. There was one problem though. I wanted the pole vaulter to be all one color like you see above, but in the one, I got it was shaded and I didn't like that. So I tried to make it a different color and after a few minutes, I figured I would just grab a different one. I found another one, just this one had the bar so I knew I would have to remove it. I placed the person where I wanted them and started to cover the bar with white. This went pretty quickly since I've had experience, and once It was done it looked pretty good. I decided then to move the watermelon over just a tad and I had to fix the white accordingly. I also didn't like the stem that was included with the watermelon so I decided to remove that too. Then, it was looking pretty good. Finally, I added Freeport Pole Vaulting and I was done. Overall, I think that it looks pretty good. As a team, we might put it on shirts or something, and then we'll be really official. If I was to change anything, the only thing I might change is the background color. But I can do that anyway and I might have to, depending on what color shirts we get.
