Semester One Reflection

Over the course of this semester, I have learned a lot about art. Through creating my own art and researching others art, I am now certainly knowledgable on the subject. I think there are many things I have succeeded with this year in art, though also things I struggled with. Now I will discuss it.

Through this year, there is one, crucial thing I made sure not to do, not only in art, but all my classes. And that is procrastinate. Procrastination was nearly the downfall of my freshman year. I got into a snowball effect of falling behind in my classes. So this year, I promised myself that I wouldn't do that again. Since then, I have stay right on top of all my work, by getting it done as quickly as possible, you have a bit of room if you do end up taking your time on it. In that regard, I succeeded this year, with never having one assignment late or missing.

An area I struggled with this year, though, was certainly creativity. Towards the end of the year, with the sustained investigations I worked on this a bit, but nevertheless I need to work on it. I just struggled with expanding my imagination and coming up with unique ideas. I can certainly create art when I have references and inspiration, but I find it hard to do that on my own. This is something that I look forward to working on, and becoming more create in general, or maybe just opening my mind to creativity.

I have several artistic goals for the future. For one, as I said, I plan on working on becoming a more creative artist. And trying to open my mind to art that is outside of my comfort zone to discover creativity. Though another thing I have been, and plan on working on further in the future is expanding my knowledge of materials. I want to learn to use anything to create art, and I began working on this in the sustained investigations. For the SI projects I made sure to use materials that I was not familiar with. This not only exercised my mind, but it helped me work on creativity too. Having to figure out how I wanted to use the materials worked very well for me. I enjoyed the learning process, and by forcing myself out of my comfort zone, I opened my mind to new materials.

Overall, this was a good year for the artist. I really enjoyed 2D design and plan on doing 3D for the next semester. Like I said, I learned a lot through this year and plan to continue my artistic journey in years to come. I really enjoy art, and the art program here really pushes you to work in a way that would be hard at home or on your own. Thank you Mrs. Medsker for guiding me in my art, and teaching me more than you know through it.
