Cut paper and Sharpie on multimedia
For this project, I used the technique of cutting and pasting construction paper with glue sticks to create a sunrise scene over the water. On top of the paper, I added writing endorsing organ and tissue donation. I think that this project relates to my life because it represents a calm side of me where I place myself in paradise drinking a martini(when I'm over 21 of course) and enjoying myself. I had the vision of this project in my head before I started it and it turned out to look even better than I had imagined.
To create this project I used construction paper mainly and glued it down with glue sticks. I then wrote on top of the construction paper with Sharpie™ my message of organ donation into the piece.
When creating this piece, I used a process and technique that I have never tried to this extent before. Using cut paper I pasted different colors into a pattern that I deemed fit for the project. I knew that I wanted to keep a peaceful design so that it could possibly calm and relax the passerby of said piece. I used Sharpie™ to write the message, and I must admit that it was a kind of shortcut instead of using paper to do the writing. I added different aspects of abstractness to the piece as well, particularly in the suns' reflection in the water, I used lines of yellow. And in the birds and waves as well. This project evolved pretty smoothly in general. I started with the sky and the sun. I did the sun very first but realized quickly that it wouldn't work in the way I liked since to get a seamless connection of the sun to the sky I would need to overlap the sky and the sun. So I proceeded to add the orange of the sky, overlapping as needed. When I thought it looked good I added the sun back in but decided to overlap more orange on top of the orange. Once I was finally done with the sky I added the third sun in. As a final addition to the sky, I added birds, though, in hindsight, I think that I made the birds slightly too large. Next, I was on to the water. I started by simply adding blue paper here and there in different sized squares and rectangles. I covered the area of the water and then I was onto the waves. I used the same process for the waves as the birds, I would fold paper like you would when cutting snowflakes and would cut out a triangle, and then another triangle inside of that one. I also kept some of the waves just as the basic triangle form. After this, I added the suns' reflection on the water. I figured it would be quite difficult to add a mostly realistic reflection so instead, I added yellow lines to imitate it in a way. Next I started to add the shore. I originally thought that I would add some people walking in front of the sun but I gave up on that idea since I thought it wouldn't be particularly necessary to deliver the message. I also contemplated whether to make the shore black or brown, after doing some quick research and looked at some photos of a real sunrise over the water I decided that I would make the shore black and I am happy with the result. Once this was done I had to add the water on the shore again since it got covered up. After this was over I added two palm trees in the foreground in place of the people, I really like this, I think it added to the 'paradise' feel of the piece. Finally, when all this was over it was time to add the writing. I decided to do Sharpie™ instead of cut paper mainly because I didn't really want to maticulously cut and paste tiny letters, though I think that it would of had a very similar outcome. In the end of this project I am pretty happy with the result. I think that if I was to continue this project I would fix the letters and the writing a bit, they're a little bit crooked and different sizes. I might also fix the small gap in the top between the water and the sun just because it bothers me a bit.
