Ink, pen, and Sharpie on watercolor

Artist Statement

For this project, I was given a piece of paper with a blotch of ink on it and was to create art around it. I am not the most creative person when it comes to art, so admittedly, I struggled a bit with ideas, but eventually, I just let the pen flow. This project relates to my life for several reasons. One, I included some drawings from my childhood, including Aang and the cloud-like thing that I used to draw in elementary school for fun. To create this project, I tried to just let my imagination flow and see what I ended up making. I used a pen for most of the lines and filled in some of the White spots with a Sharpie. I'm not sure exactly why, but I went with the cartoon style for this project as well as the last. I don't often draw cartoons, but for whatever reason, I was drawn to it with this project. In creating this piece, I started with the face of Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender I decided to do this because for whatever reason I saw his face in the ink. I used to watch the show when I was younger but haven't sense even amid the growing popularity of anime. I then continued to add different cartoon-like drawing around in no particular order. Adding things like a light bulb and an acorn with a face, neither of which really had any rationale behind. I finished the project off with the word 'Mom' because I love my mother. If I was to continue this project, I would probably restart from the beginning. I think I could add some more meaningful drawings, and maybe come up with some more creative ideas.
