Graphite and colored pencil on multi-media

In my piece, I used the techniques of drawing spheres that we have been using in art class recently to draw a box of Nerds.™ In my work I show the opened box with the candy spilling out. This project relates to my life because I love Nerds. They really never fail to impress my tastebuds.

To create this project, I used three main materials, 2H pencil, 4B pencil, and numerous different colored pencils. I felt most comfortable using colored pencils because I have used them more than anything else in the past, besides graphite, to create art.

While creating this piece, I used the spherical drawing technique that we have practiced in class, and some perspective drawing skills. Though the perspective part was harder because there was not one point the box was coming from so I mainly used my eyes to map it out. To create this I first started with a light outline of all the things I would include in my drawing. Which was simply just the nerds and the box. It took some time figuring out where the box would go since I wanted to have the nerds spilling out as well. After this, I started drawing the nerds, first I drew the outline, then I began to color them in using the technique. Next I started drawing the box, again, I started with the outline, then I colored it in. As much as I wished there was reflection with the box, there was none, which would've added a lot to the piece. I added all of the details on the box as well. After I finished coloring it in, for my final step of the drawing, I added all the shadows, focusing mainly on the shadows of the nerds. If i was to continue this project, I would first straighten the box out, more specifically, straighten out the details within the box. Next I would furnish the nerds and even them out, trying to make them as realistic as possible.
