84 Color Painting

For this project we were assigned to create a painting using three tones and three shades of each of the 12 colors on a normal color wheel, which are the three primary, the three secondary colors and the six tertiary colors. After some debate I decided to do a face inspired by the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, by the Beatles, and create a crazy background.

As you may notice, this assignment is incomplete, as COVID-19 all but cancelled the project. This project was particularly frustrating for me because a lot of the people around me are very talented painters, and I was unable to get results I liked. Furthermore, without the paints from school, my pallette drastically changed, which only muddled the waters further. I think that the face looks fine, the background is poorly rendered, lacking in skill and ugly. I wish that we were able to do more mini-projects preceding this so as to better our skills with a paintbrush.

Really there isn't much to talk about this unfinished piece, I like the face, but strongly dislike everything else. I like the way paintings look but I am too amateaur to get good results.
