As an artist, I am someone heavily inspired natural forms, and these two pieces are a direct result of that. The movement of the snakes on the black vase mimics the path of a river, for instance. I was drawn to the hippopotamus because I thought it was an unusual, but organic form. I liked mimicking the blue of the original faience and used the two coil pot projects as a way to improve my skills with clay while making something I would want to hang on to. I always struggle to justify keeping old ceramic projects around, especially when they take up space that could hold a lot of two-dimesional art, yet at the same time it is really cool to keep old pieces so that you can track your progress.

I used SM-1, which is a Matte Black for the Snake Pot, and used Amaco Celadon C-20 for the Blue Hippo.
