Teapot

It's Milkshake Time

3" X 4" X 10"

Glazed Ceramic and Wire

For this project, we were asked to design an eccentric teapot that featured a handle, spout, lid and teapot body.  I was inspired by 1950's diners for this project, and chose to incorporate a spoon as the handle, while the body was a milkshake glass, and the top was the whipped cream and cherry.  This piece is non-functioning, the spout is the straw and is incorporated as part of the lid.

I used black, white, red and green underglazes for this piece, as well as a clear overglaze on the whipped cream, cherry and spoon.  I used coil construction for the majority of the piece, and used a slab to create the spoon. I carved the details of this piece using a ribbon tool.

While this was an interesting project to complete, I am not incredibly happy with the results.  I feel as though I did not do enough to capture the detail in the whipped cream, and am frustrated that the spoon-handle broke.  However, I very pleased with the way that the 'glass' turned out, specifically the way in which it looks stylized rather than life like.
