Observational Drawing
9 X 12
Graphite and marker.
This piece was a foray into drawing the human figure something that I do not do fairly often. I focused on body position and form, working quickly and trying to develop a closer relationship between my eye and my hand.
I used a 2B graphite pencil for sketching, because while the lead may be dark, it is soft, and does not scratch the surface of your paper the way that an H or HB does. For the background, I used a red prismacolor marker.
I used quick, rough lines, focusing getting lines closer to where I saw them each time I went over them. I wanted to capture the pose and proportions of the figure more than I wanted to capture the details, this I did in some better than others. For the background I tried to divert my frustration with the figures, and focused on something interesting to look at.
