It was quiet, no chattering, not even the sound of footsteps. The only things I could hear were the sounds of my pencil writing, the papers crumbling, and the sound the trash made when the papers fell in. I was running out of ideas and thought that maybe, just maybe I would have to try another way, until I found it.
The perfect idea came to mind, the one thing I hadn't been thinking of, all this I've been thinking about models for furniture that could change the industry, when the true thing I needed was sitting there right in front of me. I immediately got to work on my invention, I carefully thought out every little detail that would be needed to make the first step to changing the furnishing industry all together. It was both exciting and tedious at the same time, If I had missed even the smallest of details I would have to restart the entire process.
After what felt like forever it was finally time to show my creation to the world, to change the industry to the way it should be. My invention was a synthetic fiber called polylonfin, to make it I had to melt and mix polyethylene filaments at the perfect temperature so that they would melt but stay sort of solid, just solid enough to be turned into yarn. Soon the world would recognize me as someone who is greatly respected, as the man who changed the furniture industry for years to come.
This polyolefin fiber was only step one of my plan, step two would be someone way larger than just making a base for the industry to switch to, no step two would be me expressing what we use this fiber for. After going through the tedious process of going to court to get my work patented, I started on step two of my plan. Once again all sound disappeared as I went back to making ideas. It was like a loop, every idea I came up with was either not good enough or was too complex to create with the materials I had at my disposal.
I took a break from the endless thinking to go out and look for ideas, but then, that's when it struck me. What I saw before my eyes gave my brain a spark. In front of me was the softest, most beautiful rug I had ever seen, but that wasn't what gave me the idea. What gave me the idea that would make me famous was the flaws the rug had. It looked as if they put so much glue on it that the rug itself was sticky, and the yarn they used looked so… off, it was both beautiful and ugly at the same time.
After seeing this I ran back to my working space, I started working really hard on the perfect use of my fiber. I had to be even more careful than the last time I invented something because this was my first and only chance to create the impact I needed. Seconds went to minutes, minutes went to hours, and hours went to days. When I was finally finished with the invention I had to wait, there was one last thing to do.
That one thing I had left to do was to create a highly descriptive instruction manual about how the rug would be made if it were produced in the manufacturing. In the manual I explained how to make the rug you would only need little amounts of glue and a bit of synthetic fiber. After I finished I waited to get the right to patent it so that the world would know that I had changed the furniture industry for the better. When the work was all done I was able to start on my next project, knowing that I finally made myself known and made the industry the way it should be.
