I had the whole crowd laughing at my dances and comedy acts. It was wonderful. The children at the front were laughing hysterically and the mothers of the children tried to keep them from dropping to the ground. Laughter filled the tent as I finished the show. My fellow performers graduated me on the show reminiscing on the sum of the most hilarious parts. Then the tent owner came. He said “Mario, that was another wonderful show as always.” “Thank you sir.” I said. I had been traveling with the circus tent show for a few weeks now and it was wonderful. Going across Mexico performing in front of different crowds making the people laugh. “Now” said the tent owner “I think it's time to come up with a stage name Mario. You said you wanted one right.” I looked at the owner and nodded. I need a stage name so my parents would not find out I was performing. They said that the entertainment business was a shameful occupation. I tried bringing it up once that people actually make good money from it but my father cut me off and my mother slapped me on the chin. I fondly remember the ting of pain from it but shook my head to get rid of it. The owner said “So what is it going to be?” I replied “Could you give me some time.” “Sure” He said “Tell me what you think of and I will get someone to make the poster.” He said smiling. He patted me on the and left to sort out the money we had earned that night. I went outside and sat on a box near the tent. Pushing the thoughts of my parents away, I started to think of a name. I needed something memorable and funny to say. Something that people would talk about, something people will spread rumors of. I sat thinking for some time. I decided to combine my first name and the name of that character from William Shakespeare Hamlet. What was his name? Oh right! It was Fortinbras. I sat a bit more trying to think and I had it. Cantinflas. At first it came in bits and pieces and then it came together all of the sudden. I believed it had a meaning but did not think about it. I rushed over to the owner's cart. He was sitting at the side of it talking to someone. He saw me finished his conversation and walked over. He said “So have you come up with something” “Yes, Cantinflas” I replied. He thought about it for a minute and said “I like it. I will get someone on the poster right now: Cantinflas the Comedian” He smiled and went over to the tent to help get things packed up. I smiled. “Cantinflas.” I said out loud. It sounded and felt just right to say. I looked at the tent and then to the land and thinking out loud said “This is where my journey and career begin.”
