It was around 1 o'clock every time I would go to my masters house to learn how to paint. He was an amazing painter in my eyes but I heard some other people saying that he doesn't know how to draw and that he is a creep. They would also say that all he does is sit in his house all day. He would teach me how to mix color and not ruin the painting or any of my brushes. I would spend at least four to five hours painting with him and it never got boring. I did it for about 6 years. I started to learn how to paint when I was only 12. That's kind of old but in the 1800's that's pretty good.. I learned that I do not work like my master. I like to use chiaroscuro, a type of painting where you do the treatment with light and shade of the drawing. It is also like making light fall unevenly from a particular direction. That's kind of old but in the 1800's that's pretty good.

I painted my first painting when I was 14 years old and my master said that he was very proud of me. It was a woman that was cooking some eggs in her kitchen. He was so proud of me that he told me to try to go sell it and when I did. I had a whole bunch of people that were trying to buy it. I ended up selling it for three thousand dollars to a rich man. My master was very happy and he told me that someone had stopped by and gave him an envelope. Inside of the envelope was an invitation to go to the Kings Party. It was in a week. I asked my master if I should go and he said of course I should go. So then I waited a week. The time had come, to finally go to the party. Now was the time that I was going to go see the King. I got the best looking clothes I had and I went into my Masters car. When I got in the car I was very scared that I would mess up, like maybe I would trip or maybe I would even say something mean I mean for how I felt right now I could probably faint when i go up there. Or say something wrong like what if he asks me to do something and I get too shy and I can't say anything back to him. I manage to get all of my strength and walk up to the castle. I was greeted by people in suits. They asked me what my name was and I told them that my name was Diego Velazquez and they told me that the king had been expecting me. That is when my heart started to race to the point where my master could hear it. He told me to calm down and then I almost yelled at him because I told him that no one can be calm during this. The guards then asked me who asked me who the person with me is, I told them that he is my master and that if he does not go into the castle with me then if not going in and they said that that's fine and that he can come in. So then they lead us to where the king was, We got there and he seemed very happy to see me. He then asked who the person was with me and I told him that he was my master and that he taught me everything that I know, My master smiled a little bit. Then he told me that he has a question for me that is a one time offer. I asked him what it was and he told me that he wants me to paint a picture for him and I told him that I need to to talk to my master before I said anything. I pulled my master to the side and he told me that I was crazy talking like the king like that. I said that I know and I'm going to apologize after he tells me what to say to the king. He told me that if I was ready then that I should for sure say yes because it would be an honor and i would get a lot of money out of it. So then I went back and told the king that I would paint a picture for him but, can my master paint a picture to and then the king has to choose the best between us and the king said that's fair and said that who ever has the best art will win. He also said that he would give the winner 5 thousand dollars to the winner we both go. Me and my master both got bright red then got to work right as he said that we got in his car. Then my master said that this is just a friendly challenge right? And then I said of course. I think that he didn't want us to get into a fight and that he just didn't want to have any fights with us. So we got in my masters house and got straight to work.
