Have you ever danced in front of a king and queen? I have danced in front of King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain. Wait a second, let me tell you a little about myself. Rewind. “Hola, me llamo Marquita Rivera” (hello my name is Marquita Rivera). I am twenty years old. I love to sing, dance, and act. I am going to tell you how I came along to dance for the King and Queen of Great Britain.
I started studying dance at the age of six. A couple years ago I played my first big role in the movie “George White’s Scandals of 1936”. In this movie I played the role of a dancer. Over the years I have performed all over the United States and South America. I have been called many things, and danced for many crowds. But, none of them was such an honor as dancing before a King and Queen.
I was only sixteen years old when I was selected to dance in the World’s Fair in New York in 1939. Little did I know that I would be dancing in front of a king and queen. The world’s fair was held at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, in Queens, New York. I was surprised I would still be able to perform because four months into the year 1939 World War II started. With the war raging on many exhibits were shut down.
I still remember that day like it was yesterday. I can still vividly remember Queen Elizabeth’s smile as she watched me dance, and King George III’s fascination in my rhythm. It was truly such an honor to dance in front of the king and queen of Great Britain. What other performers do you know that can say they have danced in front of a king and queen? That day has to be one of my most memorable performances.
Anyways, I have to get ready for my next performance. I hope you enjoyed my story. That moment has definitely been my biggest accomplishment in my life. Dancing before the king and queen was an extraordinary privilege, I will never forget. Stay positive and follow your dreams. Adios mi amigos (goodbye my friends).
