Dear Families of St. Michael School,

This week we were honored to welcome a team from the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) to our campus. Their visit was part of our continued commitment to ensuring that St. Michael School remains a safe and secure environment for all our students, staff, and families.

On Monday the KCSS team spent the morning alongside members of our St. Michael Safety Team. The KCSS team reviewed our current safety protocols and campus layout, affirmed many of the strong security measures we already have in place, and provided valuable insight into areas where we can grow even stronger. Their professional guidance is helping us make informed decisions about next steps, both in refining our current safety practices and in implementing new layers of protection.

Our school and parish are working hand-in-hand to take a campus-wide approach to safety. This unified effort reflects our shared commitment to protecting every member of our community. In the coming months, we look forward to sharing more details about some of the enhanced safety initiatives we’ll be introducing. Several of these will be featured in our upcoming “iGiveCatholic” campaign and at our school auction in February, while other improvements will be implemented more quietly to ensure they remain as effective as possible.

Please know that the safety of your children is our highest priority. We are grateful for your trust, your partnership, and your prayers as we continue this important work.

The Fun Run is coming up on Friday, October 3!
We’re excited for this fun and colorful day on the athletics field. Families are welcome to attend—there will be a roped-off spectator section, and we ask that you remain in this area unless you are signed up as a Fun Run volunteer. Please park in the gravel lot or the parking lot closest to the church so we don’t block the swim lanes.

Fun Run Schedule

Preschool: 9:00–10:00 AM
6th–8th Grades: 12:00–12:45 PM
3rd–5th Grades: 12:45–1:30 PM
K–2nd Grades: 1:30–2:15 PM

Important Reminders

Students will not be dismissed directly from the Fun Run. All children will return to their classrooms, and normal dismissal procedures should be followed.
Fun Run shirts and accessories will be handed out Friday morning. Please send your child to school in school-appropriate free dress and any colorful accessories they’d like—tutus, headbands, socks, etc.
Students who prefer to avoid color powder should run/walk inside the color tables along the course. Please remind your child of this ahead of time so they know what to expect during the event.

Parents,
Due to recent cases of lice in our school, we ask that you remain mindful and vigilant over the next few weeks. Please check your child(ren) regularly to help prevent further spread. Lice are most commonly transmitted through direct, head-to-head contact but can also spread through sharing personal items such as hats, combs, or bedding.

HEAD LICE POLICY

School officials must be notified when a child or other members of the family contract head lice. St. Michael School follows a no nit, no lice policy, meaning that students are not allowed in the school building if they are discovered to have nits or live lice on their scalp.

• All members in the particular grade or class may be checked once one person is discovered to have lice.

• Siblings, carpool/bus riders will also be checked to help eliminate the spread of lice.

• If any of these people (carpool/bus riders or siblings) are found to have lice, their classes or grades may be checked.

• Students will be checked by a trained staff member before being allowed back into the classroom. A parent/guardian must be present during the recheck. The child may only be checked once every 24 hours.

• Students will be checked 5 – 7 days later to make sure lice/nits have not returned.

• Students who have lice more than once must have a Health Department statement clearing them of lice/nits.

Please be respectful of each family and child who is identified as having lice. Please remind your children not to gossip or make fun of any child that has lice. It is important for children to understand that if they or a classmate is identified as having lice, they haven’t done anything wrong and they aren’t unclean.

Make-up Picture Day is Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Students may wear their school uniform OR free dress.

If you're satisfied with your child's picture, no further action is required.

If you were unhappy with your original Picture Package, please send it to school with your student on Retake Day. A new Retake Package will be produced and delivered to the school about four weeks after Retake Day. You do not need to place another order—the retake package will match your original order.

Please note, if your child is photographed on the original and Retake Picture Days, the Retake picture will replace the original picture in certain products, like the yearbook.

Students who were absent for Picture Day should come to school prepared to have their picture taken. If you have not preordered, please use the Retake Order Code 0091ZFF to place your order at https://inter-state.com/Order.

Students may bring in a gift card ($10 or more) for the Auction Gift Card Pull during the week of October 14–17. Each student who participates will receive a Free Dress Pass for October 24.

Families with multiple students may send one gift card of a higher value (equal to $10 per child) to receive credit for all children in the family.

2026/2027 Tuition Assistance

The tuition assistance application for the 26/27 school year will be available at www.ceflou.org on October 15, 2025. Parents/guardians will need their 2024 federal tax return and 2024 W-2’s; (additional documents may be requested if they have additional income).
The 2026-2027 application fee is $35.
Deadline to complete the application and provide all documentation is November 30, 2025 for consideration in the initial round of funding. These families will receive award notifications no later than March 1, 2026.
The current application will close end of day October 10, 2025. If anyone would like to apply for the current 2025-26 school year, the application will be open through October 10, 2025.

All adults planning to volunteer at school or chaperone field trips need to have their Safe Environment training complete along with a background check on file with the Parish Office. Safe Environment training must be renewed every five years. There is an online renewal option for those that have previous Safe Environment training on file.
