Dear Families of Saint Michael School,

We hope all of our families enjoyed some special time together during the students’ day off on Tuesday! While our students were home, our teachers participated in a professional development day with colleagues from across the Archdiocese. The day focused on enhancing our instructional practices and exploring the new religious education framework that was recently approved by Archbishop Fabre. We look forward to bringing what we learned into our classrooms to continue supporting our students’ growth in faith and learning.

This year, during Discover Catholic Schools Week (November 16-22), we will be administering a family engagement survey to parents/guardians and students (grades 3-8). We are committed to continuous school improvement and rely on the feedback of our school community to ensure this commitment leads to the further growth of our program. Next week, you will receive a link to the survey through which you will be asked to provide feedback on our program effectiveness. We thank you in advance for your full participation.

Today marks the end of the first trimester, and we are so proud of how hard our students have worked over the past several months! Their effort and growth have been wonderful to see. Report cards will be released on November 14, and we look forward to celebrating all that our students have accomplished.

TARDY POLICY REMINDER

Students who are tardy five or more times will be required to follow the protocol below:

A formal communication to parents will be sent via email, which is considered a written warning.
At 10 tardies, an in-person meeting with administration and counselors will be required.
At 15 tardies, students will be placed on an attendance contract, during which students may not be permitted to attend field trips, pep rallies, or other school events until appropriate measures are taken to ensure prompt arrival to school and class.
Further instances of excessive tardiness may result in detention or in-school suspension.

Consequences of excessive tardiness may include habitual truancy reported to Child Protective Services per Kentucky Law 159.150 (defines truant as any child who has been absent or tardy for three or more days without a valid excuse. Any student who has been reported as truant two or more times is considered a habitual truant.)

UNIFORM POLICY TEMPORARY ADJUSTMENT

Currently, our dress code in the Leggings section states “Gray, burgundy, or black full length leggings permitted under skirts or jumpers. Sweatpants are not permitted, including STM sweats.”

Our 8th Grade Student Council has requested that the girls be allowed to wear sweatpants under their skirts in school during cold weather months. Defining cold weather months as November through the end of March. The sweatpants would be black, maroon, or gray solid colors. No logos or writing on the sweatpants. No patterns or camouflage. No pajama pants.

After discussing this as an administrative team and with the prediction of much colder weather we will temporarily allow the request for this school year effective on Monday, 11/10/2025. The question that may come up, what about the boys. The boys have the option to wear long pants that are already listed in the Uniform Code.

We have modified their request to include permission for a small logo on the sweatpants as long as it is covered by the skirt.

We will address the School Board to see if this can be adjusted in the Uniform policy for next school year.

UPDATED POLICY: Beginning immediately, students will be permitted to bring water only into the building during morning arrival. This adjustment is being made to reduce spills, limit waste, and promote healthy choices among our students. Beverages such as coffee-based drinks, juices, and other sugary or caffeinated options have created challenges in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Students may continue to bring refillable water bottles for use throughout the day and may include an alternate beverage in their packed lunches from home. We appreciate your support in helping us uphold this policy.

Wild Knight Gala

On February 7, 2026, St. Michael Catholic School will host our 22nd annual Wild Knight Gala (Taste of St. Michael) — the premier fundraiser for our school community. Guests will enjoy dinner, a silent auction, casino-style games, raffles, music, and dancing.

This year, our goal is $70,000—and we need partners like you to make it happen!

This is the only fundraiser of the year that directly supports our school. Proceeds this year will fund safety improvements and provide new tools to educate and enrich our students.

2026/2027 Tuition Assistance

The tuition assistance application for the 2026–2027 school year will be available at www.ceflou.org beginning October 15, 2025.

Parents/guardians will need their 2024 federal tax return and 2024 W-2s to complete the application. (Additional documents may be requested if there is other income.)

Deadline for Initial Round Consideration: November 30, 2025
Award Notifications: No later than March 1, 2026
