Hello parents!
As you may notice when you receive your student report cards today, there are some changes to the codes/scores for grades K-2. Please see below for a full explanation of these grading codes:
4 – Mastery of Skill: Your child has fully mastered this skill and consistently demonstrates a strong understanding.
3 – Developing: Your child is making good progress and is close to mastering this skill but may need some additional practice.
2 – Beginning: Your child is starting to grasp this skill but still needs more support and practice to build their understanding.
1 – Area of Concern: This skill is currently a challenge for your child, and additional support and practice are recommended.
X – Standard Not Yet Covered: This skill or standard has not yet been taught this grading period.
P – Pass: Your child has met the basic requirements for this skill.
F – Fail: Your child has not met the minimum requirements for this skill.
Please do not be concerned if your student has areas that may require additional practice to achieve mastery. It is important to recognize that students develop and progress at individual rates, and we are only in the early stages of the second trimester. As such, there is ample time for continued growth and improvement. If you feel a more in-depth discussion would be helpful to better understand your child's academic progress and specific needs, we encourage you to reach out to their homeroom teacher. They can provide more detailed information and address any specific questions you may have regarding your student's development.
COGNIA SURVEYS
On November 17th, the Archdiocese will begin to administer the yearly COGNIA surveys. Please, parents and families, be sure to take the survey within the deadline (by November 23.)
Please see the two flyers attached for the links.
Parents and families only need to take the top link survey--student and staff surveys are administered here at school during the day. Thank you!
Junior High Mixer
grades 6-8!
My name is Michelle Fitzgerald, or as the kindergarten class likes to call me, Mrs. Michelle. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I grew up on a horse farm that my parents owned and operated. I graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and continued my education at Murray State University. I have been married to my husband Ben for a little over 8 years and have two children, Zayden and Elliana, that both attend St. Michael. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball. I also love to read and build Legos with my family.
NEW STAFF INTRO: Mrs. Fitzgerald
My name is Christy Cole and this is my first year working at St. Michael as an Instructional Assistant for 1st grade. I am happy to be part of such a wonderful school community!
A little bit about my family: My husband, James, is an attorney and we have been married for 21 years and have 2 awesome kids and a yellow lab, Tucker! My daughter, Cate is 18 and is a freshman at the University of Kentucky and enjoying her college life. She is a graduate of Holy Trinity Parish School and Sacred Heart Academy. She played volleyball for SHA for 4 years and KIVA for 7 years. My son, Brooks, is 16 and is a sophomore at Saint X. He plays golf for Saint X and is also a graduate of Holy Trinity Parish School.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis(mostly in the summer) and spending time outdoors and of course spending time with family.
Also, my entire family bleeds blue (UK), go Cats! James and I both also graduated from the University of Kentucky. I am enjoying my first year at St. Michael!

Please take a look at our updated school handbook. The new uniform & tardy policies are listed and quite a bit of the technology protocols have been updated as well.
We ask that parents and students are mindful of several items:
No step counters or digital watches may be worn (including Apple Watches, Fitbit, Garmin, etc.)
Treats may not be sent in for birthdays--they will be kept in the office and sent back home with the student at the end of the day. This is not a new policy but we do need to remind everyone of this; thank you for your support.
Parents/guardians may not drop off forgotten Chromebooks or iPads for students. They will be kept in the office and given to the student at the end of the day.
Kentucky law KRS 159.50 defines a truant as any child who has been absent or tardy for more than three days without a valid excuse. All truants shall be reported by the principal to the Director of Pupil Personnel of the appropriate public school district. The principal will notify the Superintendent at the Office of Catholic Schools.
ABSENCE (Archdiocese of Louisville Policy Handbook):
Students may need to be away from school for illnesses or family situations that arise. These are to be documented as absences. A written excuse stating the reason for absence and signed by the parent or guardian shall be required for all absences. All written excuses shall be kept on file for one school year. Parents/guardians will be encouraged to make appointments for private medical or dental services outside of school time. Local school personnel are encouraged to make arrangements with the parents for continued education for students who are absent for an extended period of time.
Parents will be notified if their student is absent three or more times without a valid excuse.

Interested in the OG approach? As part of Discover Catholic Schools week, Holy Trinity Clifton Campus is sharing infomration about the Orton-Gillingham approach. All of our kindergarten and first grade teachers here at St. Michael, as well as two of our learning coordinators, are fully OG trained. Our second grade team will be trained in full this year, too!
Go learn about this wonderful, research-based reading approach and see how the OG program is delivered.
First time SET must be taken in person. A schedule may be found here--> Training Schedule – Archdiocese of Louisville (archlou.org)
