Special Use Trucks

42-3-306(5)(c) and 42-3-306(9)(d), (f), (g) & (h), C.R.S.

“Special Use Truck” is any motor vehicle that meets the definition of truck under 42-1-102(108), C.R.S., and is designed and used for a special purpose and is designated as a Special Use Truck by the executive director of the Department.

The Department designates Special Use Trucks via 1 CCR 204-10 Rule 33, Special Use Trucks.

The following motor vehicle types, when designated and used for a special purpose, are designated as a Special Use Truck:

  • Vehicle specially constructed for towing, wrecking, and repairing that is not otherwise used for transporting cargo.

  • Vehicle transporting racehorses to and from the stud or to and from a racing meet in Colorado.

  • Veterinary mobile truck unit.

  • Mobile mixing concrete truck.

  • Trash compacting truck.

  • Roll-off trash trucks.

  • Trucks used specifically to haul only recyclable materials.

  • Roll-off trucks used specifically to haul only recyclable materials.

  • Trucks used specifically to pump concrete, commercially known as “concrete pumpers”.

  • Beverage canister and delivery trucks with roll-up sides.

  • Mobile blood donation/collection vehicles.

  • Mobile medical testing and screening vehicles.
