Purged Bill of Sale
When the title has been lost and state title records have been purged, the vehicle may be transferred on a DR 2116 Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale for Purged Colorado Title with proof of ownership and DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification number.
Documents Required to Transfer Ownership
DR 2116 Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale for Purged Colorado Title.
DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification Number, unless a current, non-expired registration, from any County within Colorado is presented."
Proof of ownership (see below).
If a manufactured home, proof of property taxes paid will be required (See Manufactured Homes).
Documents Required to Re-establish Ownership
Completed DR 2116 Motor Vehicle Bill of Sale for Purged Colorado Title, with notation “To re-establish ownership” in the “Sold To” area of the bill of sale.
DR 2698 Verification of Vehicle Identification Number. unless a current, non-expired registration, from any County within Colorado is presented."
Proof of ownership (see below).

Colorado registration (original).
Colorado renewal card (original).
Photocopy of Colorado title document.
Verification from the county (copy of county’s record).
For manufactured homes, verification from the county treasurer/assessor that it has been in the owner’s name and on the tax rolls for the past 10 years. The verification must include the vehicle identification number and the Colorado title number (See Manufactured Homes).
