Every job is really important to our society. Doctors have the objective of maintaining the health of everyone. Teachers teach and lead the kids to a successful life. And builders structure people’s homes. Jobs have been severely affected by technology and changed our society nowadays, having good criterias and bad too. There will be alterations in the future due to the technological advancement in which will influence jobs, and teens should know it because later on, they will need to work.
There are many positive sides of the application of technology in jobs. Based on Brainspire, one of them is the advertisements, which help the companies to show their ideas, products and others to the public by using certain strategies and getting their attention. Advertising wasn’t really easy to make in the past, unless the company had an enormous budget, but nowadays to make one is cheaper. There are few advertisements that can grab the attention of the public, for example if you’re watching a youtube video and a boring ad appears, you won’t think twice and will click the skip ad button. However ads that are creative may grab the attention of many, for instance the Coca-Cola ad (Coca-Cola® Masterpiece) is really good and I myself paid attention to it till the end and made me want to drink a Coke. According to Creative Bloq this ad was made with the help of AI, which is very interesting. Moreover the same website says “Technology has also helped assist with certain specific disabilities. For example, individuals with speech impediments can use apps such as Speak for Yourself to speak for them. Individuals who may not have the function in their hands necessary to navigate phone menus or type on keyboards can use voice control programs.” Many people have disabilities that make it impossible for them to work. This makes it hard to earn money, but with the help of technology, they can work like any other person in this world.
As stated by BUCHANAN, “processes that were once manual and time-consuming can now be achieved in a quick and efficient manner with digital tools, applications, and systems.”. In conclusion, these can help people be less tired, accidents being avoided and maybe more free time for them. So all these criterias can really help with their life condition.
As claimed by TYCOON STORY, communication is very important. For instance, a businessman can talk with his employees while being really far from them or if there is an important meeting or discussions, using a telephone or a computer utilising apps such as Whatsapp, Skype, Discord, Email and others is the solution. During the covid pandemic, many people used their computers and telephones to do school work or work from their jobs and this increased the knowledge people had within technology and maintained contact with each other. Thanks to the communication system, many people didn’t lose their jobs during the crises. Furthermore the person that can’t come to work, can be updated by the messages that the colleagues send.
Although technology has many advantages, there are also disadvantages in jobs. If the jobs are getting replaced by AI, many people will get unemployed and job opportunities will disappear, and some people aren’t able to get another job with good payment, conditions, etc. Jobs are very important to everyone as mentioned before, not just for the money, but each one has a role that assists the world in a way (it can be bad or good). According to the site SENSORIUM and Gartner, a new report says that AI will eliminate millions of jobs. "Many significant innovations in the past have been associated with a transition period of temporary job loss, followed by recovery, then business transformation and AI will likely follow this route," said Svetlana Sicular, the research vice president at Gartner.
In the words of ADIL BLOGGER, hackers are a huge problem, they might be one step ahead. Hackers may steal important information and data of businesses and sell it to other people or ask them for money to have them back. And it can lead to failure. Also, job opportunities can disappear. The same website mentions that day by day technology gets more advanced and efficient, and the people need them to work, however they are very expensive, so small businesses that don’t have much money can’t afford them. In addition, some people buy the unnecessary, although they have a device that already fulfils what the person needs, leading to just wasting money.
Who never got distracted while doing work or something important and kept saying 5 more minutes to yourself, but used more time? Getting distracted is too easy, and many people can’t control it, causing them to have problems in their focusing abilities and delivering the work late or not being able to finish. Sintelly says that the main phenomenals that cause distractions are playing video games, social media, tv series and movies. Due to that, many companies had to block some websites that disturbed employee’s work. Even in schools they block game websites so the students can better concentrate. Not just that but, Sintelly says that simple tasks can be done with technology, for example: tracking inventory and calculating sales. It can cause damage to skills and creativity. “The best option would be to leave the tedious and time-consuming tasks to computers, and then use technology to come to more creative and innovative solutions. If we look at it this way – balance is key and will make sure everybody wins!”. Distractions in the workplace are one thing, but how can we see the way they are affected directly?
Let’s go to the examples of jobs affected by technology to understand better. The following examples were stated by ThinkAutomation. “Pin boys were responsible for resetting bowling pins by hand. With the development of pin-setting machines, these jobs became obsolete. Automation has improved this role by making bowling safer for players. With pin-setting machines, there is no longer a risk of pin boys getting hit by flying bowling balls.” Also, factory workers now just need to maintain and monitor the machines that took over many roles in factories. This increases the safety of the workers and their energy. In addition this verifies the good side of the jobs.
As stated by Henn na Hotel, a hotel located in Tokyo, Japan has robots working and was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s first hotel with working robots. The robots are multilingual, speaking various languages, (English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese). Not only that but, the guests are able to pay, receive their room keys and head to their room automatically using the kiosk. “Guests are able to experience a futuristic hotel stay from check-in as two robots and human staff welcome you to Henn na Hotel. Robots that look just like human support guests’ check-in. Only in Ginza, guests are able to enjoy the collaboration of human staff and robots during check in.” says the website. Everything is technological, and instead of people studying lots of languages and being fluent at them which takes a long time and effort, a robot can do it easily by translating. In addition, using a kiosk is faster and even people with talking disabilities can take a room easily just by clicking it. This new interesting experience gives a little bit of a taste of future hotels.
According to MayoClinic, using robots in surgery procedures helps medical procedures a lot, it enhances precision, flexibility and control during the operation and allows them to better view the site. The robots can do challenging tasks that can’t be done with other methods. Not just that but the chance of infection is lower. Also the website says: “The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the arms while seated at a computer console near the operating table. The console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3D view of the surgical site. The surgeon leads other team members who assist during the operation.” These robots have advantages that help lots of people in surgery. A simple mistake can be critical if it isn’t precise, and the machines have all the criterias needed to perform while humans control the machines. Maybe in the future, humans won’tdon't need to do it manually and the machines can do the process alone (with supervision).
In the end, is technology evil? Not really, because the benefit arguments about technology in jobs are stronger than the disadvantages. Also, maybe the harm that it can do, can be fixed furthermore. Over time technology will eventually be in almost every place, so we need to accept the fact that we have the obligation to get used to it, instead of saying that technology will rule the world and dominate the human race like in those Sci-fi movies. “By 2025, we estimate that 50 billion devices will be connected to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), while 70 percent of manufacturers are expected to be using digital twins regularly (by 2022).” says the site McKinsey Digital. Don’t be scared, technology won’t harm you, just help you!
