Dear Year 7 student,
I am in grade 9 and I'm going through some problems in my life right now related to school. Unfortunately, the time I’m studying isn’t proportional to my grades. It doesn’t matter how much I study, my grades won’t increase. As a consequence, my parents, stricter than the normal (as usual), have been scolding me every single day. Besides, I feel like the more they reproach me, the worse my grades get. To aggravate the situation, talking to them is not working.
I feel like I’m stuck, and I beg for your help.
Thank you for the attention,
Year 9 student
Dear Y9 student,
I saw that you are going through some difficult problems. Don’t worry, in one way or another, you will find a solution for this problem. I understood that you are having school problems, and that this is affecting your relationship with your parents. Until then, I will be giving you some advice to help you to organise your mind, to help to reconcile the good relationship between you and your parents, and to get better grades.
In my vision, your main problem is your connection between you and your parents. The way that they are trying to help you to get higher grades is affecting your mental health, your relationship with them and lowering your grades. If I had that problem, I would try to take a break from your parents, that might work. If they are the reason for making your other problems worse, you should stay less time with them, until you get higher grades. In my experience, having a break to calm down works really well. According to the site Shondaland, having a break from your parents can be good for your stress, and can be good for other situations that you are having problems with, like school difficulties. When doing this, you will manage to organise your school work and then your parents will be less strict with you, and this stuck sensation that you have will go away.
If talking to your parents is not efficient, you could try to solve the grades problems. If you do this, your parents free you from stress, and make you feel better. According to the site The Learning Center, having someone while studying helps to understand the subject more and to be less stressful. If you study, you will make your grades higher, solving two problems at the same time, your familiar problems, and the low grades in school. The second most important thing to do when trying to solve a problem is to have good mental health. In accordance with the site Suicide Prevention Resource Center, having a bad mental health can be bad when studying, when making exams and for your stress. You can develop some mental illnesses too, like depression or anxiety.
Make sure you always search for help, because doing this always helps you to have support to make things get better. If none of the advice that I gave worked, try to talk to your parents. When you do this, they can understand what you are going through and change. I really hope that this advice will help you to solve all your problems. I wish you the best and that you feel better.
Sincerely,
Helena L.
