"The student with too much homework" by Felipe P.

Dear Year 7 Student,

I’m in Year 9 and I am going through some difficulties this year. I’m having problems with all the homework.

This semester the teacher gave us a lot of homework, and to be sincere they were easy, but there was so much that it just turned into a nightmare. I am going to sleep every day more and more tired. I've talked to the teachers but they can’t extend the due dates. I'm going crazy with all this homework. I can’t rest until all the homework is done and that usually goes up to 1 am leaving me 5 hours of sleep.

I can’t live like this anymore, it's just getting worse, and I don’t think it's going to get better any time soon.

Dear Y9 student, 

You are having a problem with the amount of homework and you are tired of this, you

could try to talk with your teacher.

In my opinion the problem could be caused by the class not cooperating with the teacher, because of that teacher has to compensate giving activities that were supposed to be done in class, to do at home. In addition, sometimes the teacher does not help by assigning too much homework for no reason. I already went through situations like this, and I also feel tired about it. In my opinion the best way to solve this problem is talking to the teacher in a calm way explaining what happened. Talking like this, your teacher will hear you and give you less homework.

If your teacher gives you less homework and you are still tired, you have to check if you are having a good organisation and sleeping at the right time. It can also be a problem in your routine, for example, having too many extra activities that can bother you. If you don’t change the routine of dedicating your time to school, you will get more tired and have a bad performance in class and get low grades. Doing homework in advance helps you to be free during other days of the week.  

Don’t forget the most important act of my advice column, talk to the teacher. My general advice should work because talking in a really calm way explaining in a very specific way the teacher will listen to you and give you less homework. If what I mentioned to you doesn’t work you can also talk to the coordination. I hope this works to make you feel better.
