Dear Parents,
Next week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. This week began in response to the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena in 1985. Parents and youth began to wear red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the devastating effects drugs have on people. Coalitions started to form by parents using Camerena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. This movement has grown to be a week-long celebration when students pledge their commitment to be drug-free and to make healthy choices.
To help celebrate our commitment to healthy minds and bodies, our school will be participating in fun daily activities that will promote healthy decisions. Below is the outline for the week. Please partner with us and discuss these messages at home and encourage your children to participate in our Wellness Week Challenge. Details will be sent by the end of this week.
Mindful Monday

In November, our Friendzy program will focus on the powerful virtue of Gratitude with the theme, “Stress Less, Breathe Easy.” This month, students will learn how practicing gratitude can positively impact their daily lives and relationships, even during busy or challenging times. Through engaging discussions, activities, and reflections, we will encourage students to appreciate the good around them and develop healthy ways to manage stress.
Join us in modeling gratitude and mindfulness at home as we work together to help our students “stress less” and “breathe easy” in their journey toward personal and spiritual growth.

Given November 5th is election day we are moving the previously scheduled Safe Environment Training at St. Margaret Mary to St. Albert the Great on Monday, November 11th 6:30 pm in the PLC.
Are You Safe Environment Compliant? Are you working regularly with children? If so you must have attended an Archdiocese of Louisville Safe Environment Training. Has it been 5 years since your initial in-person training? You must complete your 5 year refresher training. You must also have a satisfactory background check not older than 5 years. See your Safe Environment Coordinator today to verify your compliance!
Attention parents! We need your help! It has been more than 5 years since our last survey and a lot has changed, which is why it is so important to get your feedback. Your Administration and School Board want to know what YOU think about both your child's school experience and YOUR satisfaction level of St. Albert the Great School. Please find below a link to the St. Albert School Climate Survey, which you can easily access and finish in about 15 minutes.
Completing this survey will help our Administration and School Board better understand where we excel and where we need improvements in our school. Your participation is important so please take a few minutes to tell us what you think. Please fill out one survey per household.
All your responses are anonymous. If you would like to be entered to win the $100 Visa gift card, please send an email with the subject "I completed the school survey" to schoolboard-chair@stalbert.org. Include your name, which will be entered into the raffle. The winner will be randomly selected after Thanksgiving break. Please submit your responses by November 15. The survey link will close after that date.
Join us from 6:30 until 8:30 on November 4 for our next regular School Board meeting. It will take place in the PLC. The meeting is open to all school parents and parish members.

A group of St. Albert parents have signed the Wait Until 8th pledge and you are invited to join if you feel it is the right choice for your family. The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving children a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. By banding together, this will decrease the pressure felt by kids and parents alike over the kids having a smartphone. There are so many reasons to wait.
Many parents say “yes” to the smartphone early because so many other families have said “yes.” What if we said "not yet” together though? What difference would it make if our kids had a few more years smartphone free?
Please note that this pledge is for smartphones only. If you would like your child to have a basic phone that just calls and texts, you still can sign the pledge!
Go to the link to sign the pledge or learn more of what the pledge is and is not.
Learn to Type: You can learn to type for free at TypingClub.com. Typing Club's starter course, Typing Jungle, is a great starting point for 5th - 12th graders. It contains 685 lessons designed to teach the skill of "touch typing" (typing without looking at the keyboard).
Each lesson is just 1 or 2 minutes long and the course generally follows this pattern:
- A short video introducing the concept
- A short lesson working on one or two letters using the same finger (on different hands)
- A short lesson working with more complicated letter patterns and words.
- A short game designed to test your skills.
Sign up for free by following the steps here.
