How to check grades on Sycamore website.
How to check grades on Sycamore iOS app.
Please note that the "Missing Assignments" feature in Sycamore can be a helpful tool, but it is not a real-time reflection of whether a particular assignment was turned in by a student. For example, an assignment that is due on Monday at the start of first period does not automatically show up in Sycamore as "missing" later that morning or afternoon. Assignments will only appear in the "Missing Assignments" area of Sycamore once the teacher has graded the work turned in by the class. Depending on the nature of the assignment, the grading process may not be complete until several days after the work has been turned in by the class. For example, long-form writing pieces will take much longer to grade than a collection of multiple choices quizzes, and the utility of the "Missing Assignments" feature is diminished as the student work increases in complexity. Consequently, the most effective method of keeping up with whether your student may have failed to turn in an assignment is to discuss assignments with your child each day, especially with respect to projects, presentations and papers.
Report cards are posted to Sycamore approximately 7 days after the end of a trimester. Report cards may have comments from teachers in addition to a numerical and/or letter grade for each class. Report cards for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten are in a different format and will include a summary of student progress in meeting various skills or attributes rather than a numerical or letter grade. JK report cards are not posted in Sycamore, but will eb distributed to families by the JK teacher. Report cards are only accessible via the Sycamore website, not the iPhone or iPad apps.
At approximately the midpoint of each trimester, the school technology director will send an email to parents/guardians of students who are at risk of failing a class. These emails will only be sent if a student has earned a grade of D or lower in a class. The date/time that the email is scheduled to be sent will be announced in the Viking Voice so that parents can make a point to look for the message. The messages are distributed via our School Information System, Sycamore, at the homeroom level. Consequently, the subject line will refer to the homeroom of the student, i.e. "Homeroom 4A - Notice of Poor Academic Performance" or slightly similar wording. Unfortunately, Sycamore does not currently offer a way to include the name of the student, the class in which the student is struggling, or the current numerical / letter grade earned by the student in these email messages. The message is merely intended to notify the parents/guardians that their student is not performing well in one or more classes and encourage them to check Sycamore for more specific information about the student's grades. We encourage parents to check Sycamore at least weekly to stay informed about the grades earned by their student.
Students in the JK and K levels do not receive a numerical grade, so the technology director can't generate such "Notice of Poor Academic Performance" messages for students in those grades. Our JK and K teachers make it a point to monitor student progress regularly and reach out to families of their JK/K students who may be struggling with one or more aspects of the curriculum.
