The school Technology Director will provide new families with the login information for St. Albert's Sycamore School account. A school ID, user name and password are required to access the school’s online Sycamore School community. The website address app.sycamoreschool.com/index.php?schoolid=3505 goes to the special login screen for our school. If you do not use the "schoolid=xxxx" in the URL, you will go to a generic login screen that will also require you to enter the school's schoolID, a 4 digit code, which is 3505. You may also select a Language to view the site in (English is the default). Make this URL a bookmark and then each day you can login directly to the site.
Sycamore allows parent can set up their own preferences to receive notifications about attendance and CLASS (not individual assignment) grades. (Of course, you are free to login to Sycamore as often as you like to check on grades or attendance).
Setting up notifications can only be done on the Sycamore website, not the phone app. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can try it via Safari and force the browser to display the Desktop version of the website.
Step 1: Login to Sycamore. Look to the left side of the screen. Click on My Family. Then click on Information
Step 2: Click on the Contacts tab and then click on the parent whose preferences you want to set.
Step 3: A popup window will open. (You may have to temporarily turn off any pop-up blockers that are active on your device or create an exception so that popups are allowed when you are using the Sycamore site.)
Check the box for each type of notification you would like to receive.
Then set the threshold for grade notifications.
Then click Update.
In the example to the left, the parent would receive an email notification are any of the following events occurred:
Their student was marked absent
Their student has class grade posted that is lower than 74 percent (D or lower)
Their student has a class grade posted that is higher than 93 percent.
The "posted grade" refers to the cumulative current grade for the CLASS, not an individual assignment.
The grade settings demonstrated on the left are just an example. You are free to select a different threshold for receiving a notification. Please note that the notifications are determined at the parent level and that it is not possible to create one set of notifications for one student and another set of preferences for another student in the same family. In other words, whichever preferences the parent selects will be applied for all students in the family.
Please do not forget to click Update once you have made your notification selections. Sycamore will not save your selections unless you click Update.
Step 4: Sycamore will confirm your selections by showing a message that "Daily email notifications are Activated". It will also confirm the email address which will receive the notification message. Notifications are sent after 4 pm. Click Close to close the popup window.
The notification email will come from a Sycamore School email account. The sender will be noreply@sycamoreschool.com, so add that address to your safe sender list or contacts if you find that it gets diverted to your spam folder. (The screenshots used on this site refer to a fake student, Pika, my dog).
