Every student at St. Albert the Great is given a Google account at or near the time of their enrollment. The Google account allows them to sign in to a Chromebook and to use Google apps and services such as Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets.
St. Albert the Great students e-mail addresses can only be used with addresses within the school. Messages that are sent to/from a student email address to/from outside of our domain are blocked from delivery by Google. In other words, the only people a student can communicate with are the teachers and staff at school, and they are the only people that can email your child's school email account.
We turn off students' ability to access YouTube or YouTube Kids through a school Google account. Students can view videos that Teachers post within Google Classroom, but they are blocked from accessing the rest of YouTube.
We also use GoGuardian to block websites that might not be appropriate for young people or that might not be aligned with the school's education purpose or philosophy.
Please note that all of the above protections apply to the school-issued Google Account. The school does not control personal devices that a student might be using at home, such as a phone or tablet, even though the student might also be using their school issued Google Account on that device. For example, a student using a personal computer, iPad or phone may or may not be able to download the YouTube app (depending on what purchasing restrictions, if any, the family has placed on the child's device).
