Dear Saint Albert Family,
This week, we come together to joyfully celebrate Catholic Schools Week—a special time to recognize and give thanks for the immense blessing of Catholic education in our lives. We are profoundly grateful for your unwavering dedication to Catholic education and for entrusting your children to our care here at Saint Albert the Great Catholic School. Your sacrifices in choosing a Christ-centered education reflect your deep faith and commitment to nurturing the spiritual, moral, and academic growth of your children.
It is our heartfelt prayer that your children leave our school with a strong foundation of Catholic values to guide them through life’s journey. Rooted in our shared mission and vision, we strive each day to form students with a sense of integrity, a heart for compassion, respect for others, and a life firmly anchored in prayer and Christ-like living.
By choosing Saint Albert the Great Catholic School, you have given your children an extraordinary gift—a community where faith flourishes, and their unique God-given talents can shine.
We pray that Saint Albert the Great continues to be a school where you trust our dedicated faculty and staff to partner with you in raising faithful disciples of Christ. It is our great joy and privilege to be a part of your child’s educational and spiritual formation.
Know that we thank God every day for the incredible blessing your children are to our school family. May the peace and love of Christ fill your hearts this week and always.
Saint Albert the Great, pray for us!
With gratitude and prayers,
Deanna O'Keefe
Assistant Principal
12:30 Teacher Professional Development
This past Wednesday, January 22, on our 12:30 dismissal, our teachers received professional development on dyslexia. Phil Howell, from the dePaul School, was here to inform teachers about dyslexia and the many forms that it may display itself in our students. We learned the importance of early intervention, and that by nine years old, “students are reading to learn, not learning to read”. Students with dyslexia are not lacking intelligence, but may simply learn differently. Our training was very informational, and we hope to have Mr. Howell return again soon.
Sept.- Cooperation
Oct.- Empathy
Nov.- Gratitude
Jan.- Perseverance
Feb.- Honesty
Mar.- Respect
Apr.- Integrity
As Catholic parents and educators, we cherish the truth that each child is a precious creation of God, uniquely gifted and wonderfully made. This month, through our Friendzy theme, "Uniquely You," students will celebrate their God-given talents and strengths. Together, we will reflect on how these individual gifts enrich our school community and learn to recognize and affirm the uniqueness of others, just as God does.
Virtue of the Month: Honesty
Honesty is at the heart of who we are as followers of Christ. It calls us to speak the truth, act with integrity, and be authentic in our daily lives. This month, students will explore how honesty builds trust and strengthens relationships, and they will practice making truthful choices, even when it’s not easy.
We encourage families to continue this meaningful conversation at home. Take a moment to share with your child what makes them uniquely wonderful in your eyes and discuss how honesty is a cornerstone of your family’s faith and values.
A Prayer for Uniqueness and Honesty
Dear Lord, Thank You for creating us in Your image, each with our own unique gifts and purpose. Help us to use our talents for good and to live with honesty and integrity. May we always reflect Your love in our words and actions. Amen.
We are using Sycamore for Parent/Teacher/Student conferences again this trimester. Conferences are on Tuesday, February 11 from 3:00 pm to 8 pm, and Wednesday, February 12, from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. Each conference appointment is for 15 minutes. The last appointment slot ends at 8:00 pm. Conferences are with Homeroom teachers only. Please arrive at the appropriate classroom a few minutes early so we can keep all appointments on schedule. There is a post on the Parent/Student Tech Help Site that explains how to sign up for a conference. Unfortunately, conference signups must be done on a web browser such as Chrome, Edge or Safari, not the Sycamore phone or iPad app. If you are using an iPad or iPhone, you should be able to complete the signup process by using Safari and then forcing Safari to display the Desktop version of the website. There are detailed steps on the Tech Help Site post.
Conference signups will begin at approximately 8:00 pm on Monday, February 3, 2025. IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO BOOK A TIME BEFORE THEN.
Conference signups will close on Friday, February 7, 2025 at approximately 3 pm.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be here February 5-11 for students and parents to enjoy! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again!
Here are a few things to remember:
* Students may bring money to shop during their regular library class during this week or
wait for their scheduled conference. If your child doesn't shop during class,
we can provide a wish list to write down choices
* If JK-3rd grade bring in money to shop during class time, please put it in a
labeled baggie with the student's name
* If you are interested in ewallet (digital payment account that allows your child(ren) to
shop for books instead of using cash), please refer to the Scholastic Book Fair flyer that
will be coming home in Tuesday folder
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Grab your friends and celebrate for an all-day give back restaurant event at Gustavo's Hurstbourne location on Monday, February 3rd. Please tell them that you are with St. Albert. This benefits the 8th grade class trip.

Thank you to all the parents and faculty who completed our school climate survey. Congratulations to Lindsay Finley and Betsy deGolian who won the faculty and family $100 gift cards for filling out the survey.
We received 363 responses, which is approximately a 65% response rate. Thanks to the time you took to complete the survey, we were able to collect very valuable input on what is working well and areas we can look at to continue to enhance the St. Albert the Great experience. We will use the information we collected to set project goals for the School Board in the coming years.
You can see a summary of the family responses here.
Please mark your calendars to attend our last two meetings of the year which take place form 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 3 and May 5. They will be held in the cafeteria.
Visit the St. Albert School Board webpage for the minutes from our November meeting.
Due to publication costs, we have made the tough decision for families to purchase their own yearbook(s). You may have received an email from Inter-State asking if you would like to purchase a yearbook for the 2024-2025 school year. If you would like a St. Albert yearbook for this school year, you will need to place your order through Inter-State. You will have a choice between a hardcover ($26.00) or a softcover ($21.00). You will also have the choice of purchasing a yearbook for each child, or one for your family.
You have until March 14th to place your order. Yearbooks will be delivered in May. Click here to order.
*Eighth graders do NOT need to place an order as the school will provide a yearbook
for each eighth-grade student.

Sign ups for the photography sessions are open now! You will have a professional photography session, see your proofs, and have the opportunity to purchase extra portraits for family and friends. It's super easy! Make your appointment today using this link.
Next Sunday is the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. This feast is also called “Candlemas” – the traditional day for blessing of candles in honor of Christ who is the Light of the World. All our welcome to bring candles from home to be blessed next weekend. This is a good opportunity to think about creating a prayer corner in your home and including a blessed candle. We will also have prayer candles available at church. In addition to our regular weekend Masses, we will have an evening Mass on February 2nd at 5 p.m. This will be a candlelit Mass and will include a procession with candles.
We will have the blessing of throats after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on February 3rd. Legend has it that St. Blasé saved the life of a boy who was choking on a fish bone. He is considered the patron saint of all who have disease of the throat.
