Dear Parents,
For the past 2 years, the Archdiocese of Louisville Catholic schools have been implementing a program you may have heard of called Friendzy for our students. Friendzy is a social-emotional character development program that was developed to equip children with relationship skills that will benefit them for a lifetime and at the same time build strong communities.
This program helps to teach students the skills they need to build healthy relationships, manage stress, improve focus and academic performance and reduce disruptive behavior.
This year, we have decided to add another component to the weekly Friendzy lessons that your child will participate in here at St. Albert. We will be including a Virtue of the Month focusing on instilling core ethical values in our students. Each month will focus on a specific virtue with Friendzy lessons tailored to reinforce that virtue through SEL (Social Emotional Learning) activities. The virtues that we have selected to promote each month include cooperation, empathy, gratitude, resilience & perseverance, honesty, respect, and integrity. You will be hearing more about the Virtue of the Month in the Viking Voice, and it is our hope that the key phrases and virtues that are discussed regularly at school will also be a gateway to conversations at home with families.
The school counselors will be teaching a lesson to each class monthly, and the students will hear about these themes on a regular basis, creating a common language among our school community. At the school mass on the last Thursday of each month, one student per class in grades kindergarten-8th will be presented with the Virtue of the Month award for exhibiting the character trait that we are teaching.
We have started Friendzy this month, and the unit that we are teaching is called “We Are One”. The Virtue of the Month is Cooperation.
Key Verses:
John 17:20-21 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one.”
1 Corinthians 12-20 “As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.”
Goal: To see every person as a vital and important part of our community and to understand that being part of a community is key to flourishing.
Thank you for partnering with us in developing children of good character.

Dear Saint Albert the Great School Families,
As the new school year begins, we know that parents have already been hard at work helping their children transition. Supplies have been bought, forms completed, backpacks filled, and many pep talks have already been given. Your dedication is vital to everything that happens this year, and we deeply appreciate all that you do.
With this in mind, we are hosting an evening to help you transition into the new school year. Please join us on Tuesday, September 17th at 6 PM in the Parish Life Center (PLC) for beverages and charcuterie, followed by a program in the church at 6:45 PM. Pam Hurwitz, a national speaker, from the Faith and Family Collective, will share an important message of inspiration, humor, and hope for everything that lies ahead.
We will also take intentional time to pray for our children and the school year ahead.
We hope you can make every effort to join us for this special evening with your Saint Albert the Great School Family.
Join Principal, Ellen Martin, and Assistant Principals, Debbie Abbott & Deanna O'Keefe, for an informal gathering to talk about school-related issues, share ideas, ask questions, and stay connected to school staff and fellow parents.
To encourage discussion and engagement in a small group setting, we are only taking 22 parents per session. We kindly ask that only one parent per family sign up and sign up for one session. If there are still spots remaining after 9/23, you are welcome to sign up for an additional parent/session. Coffee & Conversations Sign-Up
