It was so nice to have our halls full of families on Tuesday and Wednesday for Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences. How lucky we are, to be able to show our students that we are ALL part of the same team and share the same objectives- to help them become their best selves. As you talk with your child about your conference and their goals moving forward, I wanted to share a few tips for promoting positive study and homework habits at home.
Establish a homework routine and provide a dedicated space for working. This will look different depending on your student’s needs. Maybe they need a snack and some play time before they begin. Maybe they need a place to sit and spread out their things. Some students can be more productive if they have space to move around or stand up while they work.
Remove distractions. It seems obvious, but our homes are bursting with technology and their diversions. The more we remove during study hours, the more our students can concentrate on the task at hand.
Encourage independent, self-learning. Of course we should guide, answer questions, and review their work, but the effort should come from our students. Knowing that their progress is the result of their hard work will be empowering for them.
Have a wonderful Fall Break, St. Albert families!
