Emily Simons
Dean of Teaching and Learning at Brisbane State High School.
Emily Simons is the Dean of Teaching and Learning at Brisbane State High School, the largest public school in Australia. Over her years in education, Emily has been a Deputy Principal, Head of Middle School, Head of the Science Department and Middle Years’ Math and Science teacher.
With responsibility for more than 3200 students and 200 teachers across the secondary years, Emily knows that great student outcomes are built on a foundation of quality professional learning for every member of the organisation. Emily has in her role worked with various teacher teams to put in place Professional Learning Communities, Teacher Led Research, Whole School Reading Circles as well as practices around Coaching and Mentoring.
In 2014, she led the introduction of iPads into classrooms at Brisbane State High School.
In recognition of her efforts, the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (Queensland Branch) in 2018 awarded Emily, an award for her contribution to leadership development across the State.
