CHIJ Our Lady Of The Nativity launched a project that empowers students (mainly from English-speaking homes) to progressively become more competent users of the Chinese language. Tapping on technological affordances to cater to the different abilities of students, video versions of interesting picture books are uploaded onto an online video discussion platform. This platform allows students to share their responses simultaneously, which in turn increases participation among them.
Additionally, this use of interesting picture books, together with the interactive video discussion platform enables students to be actively engaged in learning. Being able to access and do the task anywhere, anytime, students are able to learn on the go, at their own pace and are nurtured to become self-directed learners.
