Project Omega - Improve Oral Literacy Skills Using ICT

Presentation Level: Transform learning

Presentation Strands: Engaging the digital learner, Developing higher cognitive skills

Project Omega is a cross-department integrated project that leverages on the use of ICT to bring about engaged learning in the development of oral skills. It creates a new learning space through Google Sites with materials developed by teachers. This project promotes critical thinking through the discussion of current issues.

Communications skills are increasingly important in the 21st Century. Both EL and MTL teachers are aware of the need to provide the platform for students to hone this skill and to be confident language users. The project creates synergy between the different language departments by using common tools for the teaching of oral skills.

With the project, quality resources are shared across level teachers. The use of a variety of ICT tools allows students to immerse in Student-Content, Student-Student and Teacher-Student interactions throughout the learning process. Students’ thinking is made visible and the interactions are able to bring about a higher level of thinking and broader perspectives.

The strong support lent by school leaders allows for the culture of innovation and learning to flourish in the school. This leads to innovative ways of teaching which enriches the learning experiences of students as compared to traditional methods.
