“Illume in gloom, persist in fume”
I’m sure everyone has heard this slogan before. Yep, it’s the slogan of the 60th Students' Association (SA) Cabinet, Primarius. We sat down for a friendly chat with the Chairman, Nathan Lau (5F), and the two Vice Chairmen, Bosco Choi (5F) and Justin Hui (5F), who are in charge of external and internal affairs respectively.
One of the oldest organisations in SPC, the SA is responsible for hosting traditional events like Graduation Week and the Christmas Ball. On top of that, cabinets from different cohorts introduce new events to enrich our school life and to give us a break from our hectic schedules.
While hosting an event smoothly may seem a piece of cake to some of you, the reality is that it's much more demanding than you might think. Running a school event in is completely different from hosting a party at your home: the SA has to get quotations for the cost of each item, design the items, contact different teachers in charge, the list goes on. The pandemic has only complicated things, and Primarius encountered countless obstacles when trying to launch different schemes and introduce multiple events in the era of Covid.
Despite these hardships, Nathan’s love and passion for SA is obvious. When they were campaigning, they had to print out their party platform, but miscommunication between the cabinet and the printing company meant that the copies didn’t include Nathan’s signature. Wanting to be environmentally-friendly, he decided to sign all 200 copies by hand.
Justin told us that “being a student leader may be tiring, may be exhausting, and may even be aggravating…The journey is tough, immensely tough, but working with the committee, together we can clear all the hurdles and reach our goals.”
