Joint School Science Exhibition

This year, the 55th Joint School Science Exhibition (JSSE) took place at the Hong Kong Central Library, spanning the week from 18th August to 25th August.

The Physics Society represented our school in the exhibition. To go with the theme of the science fair, vitality, our students designed and developed a new footwear named PODELEKT. They observed that the mental health of many people had been seriously affected during the pandemic. In light of this, PODELEKT aimed at promoting vitality amongst citizens in a fashionable way by generating electricity via walking. As global warming has long been a malady besetting our society, our students also hoped that PODELEKT could provide an alternative solution to achieving carbon neutrality through discovering more renewable energy sources.

During the design process, our students faced various challenges. For example, they kept breaking the piezoelectric pads, and also had their original design rejected. On top of that, since the entire circuit was miniature, they had trouble connecting the circuits and had to check every individual component when carrying out each trial. Despite these setbacks, ultimately they left a good impression on the guests thanks to their unremitting endeavor.
