The Sports Union is responsible for all sports-related activities in SPC. Just weeks ago, they were featured in the newspaper for their tremendous efforts in cheering SPC swimmers during the Inter-School Swimming Competition. This year, the Sports Union is chaired by Lee Cheuk Yiu Donald from 5C, with the assistance of the Vice Chairman — Ng Cheuk Hin Bernard from 5E. For this issue, SCOPE interviewed them both.
The Sports Union’s achievements during the Inter-school Swimming Competition have been the talk of the town for quite some time. As the old saying goes, “You reap what you sow”. Bernard revealed that just before this high-profile event, Cheering Team members frequently stayed behind after school to practise various chants such as “La Famiglia”, “SPC GSG” and “Lighthouse”.
When asked about the achievements of our sports teams, they pointed to the badminton team clinching the Division 1 Championship and the cross country team winning the grand slam in the Inter-school Competition as highlights. Win, lose or draw, all our sports team members have shown great resilience and brotherhood despite the challenging circumstances they often faced this year: “Brotherhood is what defines us. We are very proud of what we have achieved this far and the fighting spirit of our members,” Donald said.
Indeed, what SPC athletes may not have in raw talent, they compensate for with perseverance and teamwork. As the first line in La Famiglia goes, “Brothers here we stand as one”, the value of brotherhood persists anywhere and anytime, in glorious victories and devastating defeats.
